Art Club Painting a Bright Year

The Art Club is one of the most popular clubs at our school, attracting students with its promise of creativity. Under the guidance of our sponsor, Tranda Strnad, a teacher with 15 years of experience, the club aims to promote art and encourage students both in and outside the art class to be creative and appreciate art. Despite being very busy, Mrs. Strnad ensures that each student is prepared and motivated. She promotes her club by word of mouth and by hosting an Art walk in the spring.

Engaging in multiple art mediums, students learn and value important skills. The most challenging time for the Art Club is in the spring because of the intense art competitions and the amount of material they need to cover. This season is filled with opportunities for the students to showcase their art. The first competition begins in October. Additionally, there will be a highly competitive League Art show held on April 30 in Ellsworth, where students will compete against different schools. The Art Club not only shows off its achievements but also aims to spark interest in the arts.

Mrs. Strnad mentions, “I am lucky in the aspect that I get to teach middle school  and introduce students to the Art Club, so they can join in high school.”

Senior Interview with Natalie Boyer

Q: What got you interested in the Art club?

NB: Art has been a big part of my life and I come from a long family of artists.

Q: When did you join the Art Club?

NB: I joined the art club my sophomore year but I wish I could go back and tell myself to join Freshman year.

Q: Do you suggest the art club to other people?

NB: I highly suggest that anyone, even if you aren’t very “artistic”, join an art club. The art club is very inclusive and we go on lots of fun trips to learn different forms of art. Everyone is supportive and wants you to do and feel the best. We go together to art competitions to cheer on our peers and the art club is a very fun and positive experience for anyone. As I have stated art club is a very positive environment and I suggest everyone should at least try it out.
