Ellie Callaway: Running Toward the Homecoming Crown

Ellie Louise Berseley-Callaway is one of this year’s Homecoming candidates at Republic County Jr/Sr High School, and it’s not hard to see why. Ellie isn’t just involved in a ton of activities—she’s leading the way in many of them. From Cross Country and Track to FFA, NHS, KAYS, FBLA, and Science Club, Ellie is the kind of student who always steps up, no matter the challenge.

When we asked her what being a Homecoming candidate meant to her, she said, “Being a candidate is special to me. It shows that something about me or something I do has an impact on the other students.” That pretty much sums up who Ellie is. She’s not just running fast on the track—she’s making an impact everywhere she goes.

Running has been an important part of Ellie’s High School career. She has qualified for state multiple times in both Cross Country and Track, and she’s known for her ability to lead the Cross Country team. She’s got a strong personality but is also one of the kindest people you’ll meet. Whether she’s leading the pack or encouraging her teammates, she’s someone others look up to.

When it comes to her future, Ellie is still deciding on a college, but she knows one thing for sure: she wants to keep running. She’s planning to major in physical education and continue her journey as an athlete. 

We also asked her what her favorite high school memory is. For Ellie, it’s all about the friendships she’s made and the opportunities she’s been given. "The friendships that I have made and all of the opportunities I have received" is what she values most from her high school experience.

On a different note, when asked which historical figure she’d spend a day with, Ellie’s choice wasn’t a typical figure from a history textbook—she chose Adele. Not everyone who makes history lived a long time ago.

And if Ellie had to write a book about her high school experience, she’d title it A Time to Remember. With everything she’s accomplished and the memories she’s made, that title seems very accurate.

Ellie Louise Berseley-Callaway is more than just a Homecoming candidate; she’s a leader, an athlete, and a friend to many. Whether or not she wins the crown, she’s already left her mark on Republic County High School.
