Fresh Flow: Belleville’s Solution for Clean, Safe Water

The wait is finally over. Rural Area Number 2 residents can now drink water without having to worry about the quality of their water, all due to the new completion of the water treatment plant.

The facility was specifically designed to reduce nitrate levels. You can check out Adam (Samuel) Anderson’s article “From Contamination to Solution: Belleville Water Woe’s” for more information on the technical aspects of the water treatment plant.

We recently had a tour of the water treatment plant with the City Manager who answered some of our questions about the different components of the plant.

Belleville's new water treatment plant draws water from two underground wells, processing 500 gallons a minute. The water is then filtered through resin tanks, similar to those used in water softening systems. These tanks remove contamination including nitrates, which was why the water treatment plant was implemented.

The resin tanks go through a regeneration process almost daily, cleaning the nitrates off the resin. The waste brine solution, which contains salt, is then sent to evaporation lagoons.

After the water is treated, it is pumped into the town’s water system, providing residents with clean, safe water. The treated water is additionally sold to Rural Water District Number 2, providing a vital resource to the surrounding areas.

This system is designed to efficiently manage the town’s water supply, ensuring high-quality water while effectively handling waste byproducts.
